25 Stories: From Passion to Legacy – The Stilwell Family Fund

Chuck and Charlotte with their 3 children: Greg, Chuck, and Ken demonstrate the importance of legacy giving through the Southwest Community Foundation. Next generations have the opportunity to continue legacy gifts to keep family name alive and influence our community.
The Stilwell Family Fund holds a special place in the history of the Community Foundation as one of our very first donor advised funds, started back in 2000. What began as a practical solution after a land sale quickly grew into something much more meaningful.
Guided by matriarch Charlotte Stilwell’s vision and compassion, the family chose to create a fund that could support causes close to their hearts for generations to come. That vision has continued for decades, helping organizations like Adaptive Sports Association and Stillwater Music.
At Stillwater, the family helped launch Shining Stars, a free, inclusive program where teens and adults with disabilities explore music and movement in a joyful, supportive setting. The Stilwell Family Fund is a beautiful example of how philanthropy becomes a family legacy—where one generation’s passion inspires the next to continue giving, creating a lasting culture of generosity in our community.
