The Sky is Green Grant Opportunity

Our motto

Don’t think outside the box; think like there is no box.

Challenge

Why fit in when you were born to stand out? We want to discover visionary programming for youth that is unconventional, taps the urge for adventure and encourages creativity and ingenuity.

What we are looking for

Pioneering youth programs that inspire creative thinking, feature a hands-on component, cater to an imaginative learning environment, build self-confidence and challenge kids to be explorers. The programs would be resourceful, interactive and geared to students who do not thrive in a traditional classroom. We want programs to celebrate the originality of each student.

What’s the end game?

Sometimes the questions are complicated when the answers are simple. We want kids to experiment and have a feeling of accomplishment and self-satisfaction. We would like to see how a program helps these remarkable students thrive in other aspects of their lives. How do they connect lessons learned in the program to real life choices?

Who are we looking for?

We are looking for programs that serve youth in grades K-12 in Ignacio and Cortez. The programming can be after-school enrichment, during the school day or summer opportunities.

How can the funds be used?

These funds can be used for program costs including operations and/or scholarships.

Show me the money

We will be awarding $50,000 to 5-10 organizations. Grants will range from $2,500-$10,000. For requests of $5,000 or more, the organization must show community support and other funding opportunities, so this one-time infusion of money will not be a detriment to the program. Those organizations asking for $5,000 or more must also discuss evidence-based programming and explain, in detail, evaluation plans and/or measurement tools for demonstrating program strengths and weaknesses.

Ask for what you need.

I want in! What’s next?

In order to apply, organizations must be a nonprofit, tax-exempt 501(c)(3) organization; or be a project or organization under the fiscal agency of a 501(c)(3) organization. Organizations must serve Ignacio or Cortez. You will need to complete the online application, provide a program budget, and most importantly provide a Showcase.  The Showcase can be a video, display board, PowerPoint, piece of art, poster or use your inner super power to present something not listed.  The Showcase will creatively represent your program.  It needs to be a stand-alone product that the grant application committee can review without in-person interpretation.

Application opens (right here) on June 18.

Application closes on July 18.

Grantees will be notified the week of August 6.
