Cornerstone Funding Request through Community Foundation
What is the Cornerstone Funding Request?
The Cornerstone funding request is less of a formal grant application process, and more an opportunity for nonprofits in Southwest Colorado to introduce their organization and its needs to a list of philanthropists who support nonprofits in our region. The Cornerstone is intended to be simple to apply for, yet powerful in its outcomes.
How does it work?
Twice a year, in early April and early October, the Community Foundation reviews and submits funding requests to a list of our Fund Holders and Friends of the Foundation. Donors and philanthropists will then have the opportunity to read each organization’s application and consider its request. If a donor decides to fund a request, they will get in touch with the Community Foundation. The Community Foundation will then notify the awarded nonprofit. Requests remain open for one year, at which time an organization may reapply.
Who can apply?
To apply, an organization must be a 501(c)(3) nonprofit or have a fiscal sponsor that is a 501(c)(3). If using a fiscal sponsor, the applying nonprofit/program must include a letter of understanding from the fiscal sponsor specifying that the nonprofit/program has authorization to use its tax deductible status. The fiscal sponsor should also stipulate that it will ensure that funds are expended for charitable purposes. Furthermore, the organization or program must also serve Southwest Colorado (Archuleta, San Juan, La Plata, Montezuma, and Dolores counties).
How much can I request?
A nonprofit can apply for $1,000 once per year.
