Community Donations Facilitated through the Community Foundation Approached $5.7 Million in 2023
In 2023, the Community Foundation serving Southwest Colorado infused $5,691,687 into Southwest Colorado’s nonprofit community. Those grants are broken down as follows:
- $4,237,303 was facilitated through Community Foundation projects and programmatic granting, including almost $2 million in Social Impact granting made possible through La Plata County’s American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds.
- $1,454,384 was granted from Community Foundation donor-advised funds, or DAFs.
Grants were disbursed across various nonprofit sectors in Southwest Colorado and beyond. The top three sectors in which the Foundation facilitated funding were human services, youth, and education organizations. Here is a breakdown by sector:
- $195,160 infused into the animal protection sector
- $458,404 infused into the arts and culture sector
- $322,949 infused into our county/impact sector
- $824,475 infused into the education sector
- $153,010 infused into the environment sector
- $2,461,194 infused into the human services sector
- $1,072,871 infused into the youth services sector
- $203,625 infused into other sectors
The Community Foundation serving Southwest Colorado manages over $13 million in investments and is home to almost 80 donor advised funds, organizational funds, designated funds, scholarship funds, fiscal sponsorship funds, and field of interest funds.
“Through grant facilitation last year, which was up by more than 40 percent over 2022 due in large part to La Plata County’s Social Impact grant projects, we continued on a growth trajectory to support philanthropic endeavors across Southwest Colorado,” says Briggen Wrinkle, executive director of the Community Foundation. “We help nonprofits and donors achieve the impact and improved outcomes they wish to see in our communities.”
