25 Stories: A Home Run for Durango Wine Experience – Durango Baseball & Softball

Volunteer with Durango Baseball & Softball chats with guests at the Durango Welcome Center during the Friday Walkabout.
Each year during the last weekend of April, the Community Foundation hosts the Durango Wine Experience. This two-day event brings out local wine lovers, while relying on the support of 10 nonprofits who assist with everything from set-up to break down, and many impromptu tasks in between. In exchange, each of the nonprofits receive a $2,500 grant, a program that began in 2023.
One of this year’s partners was Durango Baseball & Softball, who brought an energetic and upbeat team to the Friday Walkabout and Saturday Grand Tasting. On Friday, the team was busy connecting with guests at the Durango Welcome Center, sharing stories about good times on the fields.
On Saturday, the team returned for the later shift at a bustling Buckley Park, helping break down the many elements used for the event. Kate Cortis, the organization’s Executive Director, kicked things off with a team huddle, leading a cheer of “COMMUNITY!” before volunteers fanned out to support the final festivities.
Durango Baseball & Softball will use their grant toward lighting their fields, ensuring that evening games can finish the way the sport intended.
